MAN ATTEMPTS TO GRAB FEMALE JOGGER IN GOLD COAST PARK

Police are seeking witnesses after a female jogger was assaulted on the Gold Coast yesterday. The 43-year-old was jogging in a park behind Castello Circuit in Varsity Lakes just after 8am, when she was grabbed by a man. Police say he attempted to drag her into nearby bushes, but she managed to break free and escape. The man is described as Caucasian in appearance. The woman sustained a minor injury to her wrist, and police are now appealing for anyone who may have been in the area, or has any information about the incident, to contact them immediately.

ARSON CHARGES LAID OVER 2015 SCHOOL FIRE

Two men have been charged in relation to a major school fire on the Gold Coast last year. Fire crews extinguished a building fire at a school on Tallebudgera Creek Road in Tallebudgera late on April 25th in 2016. As a result of a 19-month investigation, a 19-year-old Tallebudgera man has been charged with two counts of arson, and a 20 year-old Coolangatta man has been charged with one count of arson. It follows arson charges being laid against a 20-year-old Mermaid Beach man also in relation to the fire.

COCAINE, CASH AND CANNABIS UNCOVERED ON THE GOLD COAST

Illicit drugs, cash and fireworks have been discovered in a house on the Gold Coast. Police executed a search warrant at a Meadowlake Drive address in Carrara, where they allegedly found a quantity of cocaine, MDMA, cannabis, cash and fireworks. A 30-year-old Carrara man has been charged with three counts of possessing dangerous drugs, and one count each of producing and supplying dangerous drugs, possessing explosives, and possessing property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence. He will appear at the Southport Magistrates Court next month.

GOLD COAST JEWELLERY STORE HELD-UP

Police have released details of a man they wish to speak to following the armed robbery of a jewellery store on the Gold Coast. The incident happened at a business on Minnie Street in Southport, at around 10pm last night. The man, believed to be armed with a firearm, stole cash and jewellery before also stealing the employee’s car and driving off. The employee was not physically injured, and the stolen car was later recovered. The man involved is described as approximately 175cms tall with a New Zealand accent, and was wearing a black hooded jumper/jacket, black tracksuit pants and thongs. Anyone with any information about the robbery is urged to contact police.

WITNESSES SOUGHT FOLLOWING GOLD COAST HIT-AND-RUN

Police are renewing appeals for witnesses of a hit-and-run accident on the Gold Coast last week that seriously injured a man in his 60’s. The man was walking along Wuraga Road in Bahrs Scrub near the intersection of Prangley Road just after 7:30pm last Thursday, when he was hit by an unknown vehicle. The 62-year-old remains in a serious condition in hospital. Any members of the public who may have witnessed the incident,or who may have dash-cam footage, are urged to contact police. In particular, police are looking for a white utility that may have damage to a side mirror.

EXTRADITION FOR MAN ACCUSED OF GOLD COAST HOLD-UPS

A man has been extradited from New South Wales, following a series of armed robberies on the Gold Coast earlier this year. Police say the 26-year-old man was armed with a metal bar when held up a general store at Tallai and a bottle shop in Palm Beach on separate days in September. Investigations into the armed robbery of a takeaway store at Burleigh in the same month are ongoing. The man was extradited yesterday and charged with two counts of armed robbery.

69-YEAR-OLD GOLD COAST BUS DRIVER PUNCHED IN THE FACE

A man who allegedly assaulted a bus driver, after earlier refusing to pay the fare, will face a Gold Coast court next month. The incident happened just before 1:30pm at Robina Town Centre on Thursday. Police allege a verbal altercation took place, before the man punched the 69-year-old driver in the face. An 18-year-old Varsity Lakes man has since been charged with serious assault and fare evasion. The driver received medical treatment for a small laceration and bruising.

GOLD COAST TRADIES TARGETED BY THEIVES

Police have issued a warning to Gold Coast tradesmen, after expensive tools and equipment were stolen from vehicles. Trade vehicles on the southern end of the Gold Coast in particular have been targeted, and overnight a utility in Elonara had its canopy broken into with a number of tools stolen. Police are reminding people to secure their vehicles and that any valuables should be removed or hidden from view.

FURTHER ARRESTS FOLLOW GOLD COAST ROBBERY

A second man has been charged over the alleged armed robbery of a man on the Gold Coast. Police say that shortly after 4am on Friday the 30th of November, the 27-year-old was in sitting his car on Tallebudgera Creek Road in West Burleigh, when another man entered the vehicle armed with a knife. It’s alleged he demanded money and stole a laptop, before a second man stole the victim’s mobile phone. The 27-year-old was not injured during the incident. Following investigations, a 24-year-old Labrador man was charged with one count of armed robbery last Saturday. It follows charges being laid against a 20-year-old Coolangatta man on December 1 for armed robbery, and possessing a knife in a public place.

BYSTANDERS INTERVENE IN ATTEMPTED PHARMACY ROBBERY

Two bystanders have apprehended a would-be thief, after he allegedly attempted to hold-up a Gold Coast pharmacy. The man entered a business on Marine Parade in Southport just before 8:20pm on Saturday, and allegedly threatened to make use of a firearm. Police say he then started filling a bag with medication. But two men who were in the store at the time restrained him until police arrived, and the 47-year-old Burleigh Waters man was arrested and charged with armed robbery. One of the men restraining the man suffered a broken knuckle as a result of the incident.
