MAN HOSPITALISED AFTER GOLD COAST DISTURBANCE

A man has been charged with unlawful wounding following a disturbance on the Gold Coast last night. Police were called to a unit complex on Leonard Avenue in Surfers Paradise shortly before 1am, where they found a 44-year-old man with a large laceration to his arm. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A 53-year-old Surfers Paradise man was taken into custody at the scene and is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court today.

GOLD COAST WOMAN CHARGED OVER ALLEGED STABBING

A woman is in a Gold Coast hospital in a serious condition after being stabbed overnight. Police responded to reports of an incident at a residence on Snowgum Court in Burleigh Waters just after 8:30pm. They arrived to find a 56-year-old woman with a number of wounds to her torso and arm, and she was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a serious condition. Police took a 58-year-old Burleigh Waters woman into custody, and she was charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.

UNLICENSED BUILDER EXTRADITED FROM QUEENSLAND

Unlicensed building contractor, Matthew Geoffrey Rixon, has been arrested on the Gold Coast – and will be extradited to face court in Newcastle. A warrant was issued for Rixon’s arrest after he failed to appear in the New South Wales Supreme Court, for allegedly defying orders banning him from carrying out residential building work. Rixon has been subject to numerous public warnings from the Department of Fair Trading over dealings in Sydney, Newcastle and the Hunter.

FAST FOOD WORKER ASSAULTED, ROBBED ON THE GOLD COAST

Police are appealing for information after the employee of a fast-food restaurant on the Gold Coast was assaulted and robbed overnight. Just before 8:30pm last night, the employee of a fast food store at a shopping centre in Biggera Waters observed a man acting suspiciously on the roof of the premises. After calling for the man to come down, the intruder and two other males confronted the employee, demanding his personal property. When the staff member refused, one of the men produced a knife, and he was then punched to the ground and assaulted by the group. The men stole the employee’s phone before fleeing. The 32-year-old victim was taken to hospital for treatment to facial injuries.

WOMAN TAKEN TO HOSPITAL AFTER ALLEGED GOLD COAST ASSAULT

A man in his 70’s has been charged following the alleged assault of a woman in the Gold Coast. Police say the incident occured at around 4pm yesterday at an address on Bridgman Drive in in Reedy Creek. A 49-year-old woman was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment of a wound to her neck. A 77-year-old man has been charged with one count of grievous bodily harm. It’s believed the man and the woman are known to each other.

SYRINGE USED IN ATTEMPTED GOLD COAST ROBBERY

A man has threatened a staff member with a syringe during the attempted robbery of a Gold Coast chemist. The man entered the Nerang Street business in Southport shortly before 9:30pm last night, and demanded medication. Staff refused, and he produced a syringe and threatened a staff member. He was again denied by staff, before fleeing on foot towards Queen Street. The man is described as Caucasian, approximately 170cm tall, with a thin build, aged in his 40s, and with a small stubbly beard. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, shorts, dark-coloured shoes, and a light-coloured baseball cap. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
