GOLD COAST GOLFER FALLS JUST SHORT AT FIJI INTERNATIONAL

Gold Coast golfer Anthony Quayle, has fallen agonisingly short of victory at the $1.5-million Fiji International. Quayle shot a 63 today, including two eagles, to finish his round on top of the leaderboard. But the overnight leader from India also eagled the 17th on his way to a one shot win. Starting the day in second spot, the Hunter’s Andrew Dodt shot a final round 71 to grab a tie for sixth.

JOEL PARKINSON TO RETIRE FROM SURFING’S WORLD TOUR

Australian pro-surfer Joel Parkinson has announced this will be his last year on surfing’s world tour, making the announcement in a post on Instagram earlier today. The 2012 world champion and Tweed Heads local will retire at the conclusion of the Pipe Masters event in Hawaii in December, 19-years after winning his first world tour event at Jeffreys Bay. Parkinson, who won Newcastle’s Surfest event in 2013, has claimed 11 world tour event wins as well as finished as runner up on the world tour on four occasions. WALLABIES CONTINUE HOME-SOIL DOMINANCE OVER IRELAND

David Pocock has starred for the Wallabies as they overcame World Number 2, Ireland in Brisbane. Pocock scored a try of his own, as well as bringing about a series of important turnovers at the breakdown. The 18-9 win maintaining Australia’s home soil dominance over the Irish, having not lost a game for 39-years. The side now travels to Melbourne for the second test.
