STEPH GILMORE CLAIMS FIFTH MAUI PRO TITLE

Tweed Heads local Steph Gilmore has claimed another piece of silverware, winning the season ending Maui Pro for the fifth time.

It was an all Aussie final in Hawaii with Gilmore matched up against close friend and south coast local Tyler Wright.

The Culburra surfer struggled to match it against the seven time world champion, who looked all at home in the fading swell.

It was the first event in 17-months for Wright, who has been away from the sport battling a debilitating virus.

Honolulu’s Carissa Moore was sent packing in the quarter-finals, however did enough to clinch her fourth world title.
