An elderly woman has been bashed during a home invasion at South Kempsey.
The 85-year-old returned to her Middleton Street home around 1.30 on Sunday afternoon, only to have a male with his face covered, force his way inside.
Police say he struck the woman’s face with a metal mallet or something similar, knocking her to the ground.
He ordered her to give him money and when he was rifling through her bag, the woman ran to her back door and screamed for help. The intruder then ran from the house.
The woman suffered bruising and swelling to her left eye and a cut on her arm.
The intruder is described as 16 to 18 years old, possibly of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance.
