ROBINSON ‘TOO ILL’ TO ATTEND

A lawyer for Allan Robinson says the former jockey turned Newcastle councillor is not in good enough health to attend a stewards’ inquiry over the More Joyous saga.

High-profile lawyer Chris Murphy tonight issued a statement on Twitter to confirm Robinson would not attend Monday’s hearing.

He says Robinson’s health is still suffering after a race fall at Cessnock in July 2010.

“He is in no position to endure the stress,” Murphy said.

“Without going into his health issues I can assure you he is not up to the task in his current condition.

“He soldiers on.

“I can indicate that he is not going to be put at risk by the pressures of attending the Ray Murrihy investigation.”

On the same day Robinson was implicated in the dispute between Gai Waterhouse and John Singleton, he attended one of the most significant meetings in the history of Newcastle Council.

Robinson told Singleton he had heard all was not right with More Joyous before her defeat in the Group 1 All Aged Stakes at Randwick last Saturday.

She drifted in betting and finished towards the rear of the field.

Singleton subsequently accused Waterhouse’s son, bookmaker Tom Waterhouse, of telling people the mare could not win, and sacked Gai Waterhouse as his trainer.

  1. One of the longest and most significant meetings in council history??

You mean the one that went for an hour?

That NBN didn’t see fit to send a journo to?

    You’re kidding right?

  2. Perhaps its time for Robbo to consider his fitness as a Newcastle City Councillor. The pressure, stress and limelight of public office must be affecting his health in the same way as this inquiry. No shame in calling it quits when Robbo needs more help than those he represents.

  3. Well now we have the immortal and the untouchable!!! Too Ill to go to the AJC hearing, he should not be in council. Why is we have this elite group of Wally’s that can cause so much mayhem, influence the racing industry, consort with brothel owners, get drugged up and still be held in such high esteem? Is this what our society has become? Are we all expected to aspire to the likes of these people? Our kids, our grand kids? Is it ok to take drugs and still be put on a pedestal? Is it ok to lie, cheat and corruptly influence the racing industry and be in council? The Waterhouse name for years, has been linked to scandal ( corruption) and the old saying…birds of a feather….is appropriate in this instance. How can Chris Murphy be afforded or even needed by a Newcastle councillor if there was nothing untoward???

  4. I dont get it… Robbo must be a complete fool if he didnt think his involvement in this fiasco wasnt going to create the media hype it has now created… Really? Robbo too sick to front an inquiry in which he was the architect. Its all sounds a little corrupt to me.. the fact he sought payment for his media interview is again questionable.. wonder what Singo thinks of this!… Does NCC really need representation by those who continually make headlines for the wrong reason… I think not… Not the first time this x- Jockey has been in the headlines… lets go back some years ago for his alledged payment to a NJC staff member at Cessnock races…mmmm…best to stick to what you know best Robbo and that is being a retired Jockey.
