VIDEO: SEVERAL BOATS DAMAGED IN COFFS HARBOUR MARINA FIRE
Police say a blaze that started on a fishing boat at a Coffs Harbour marina overnight may have been deliberately lit.
Emergency crews arrived just after midnight to find the long line fishing trawler trawler alight at the Fisherman’s Co-op wharf.
It proved to be a battle for firefighters, the boat’s engine started while crews were trying to put the fire out, causing the vessel to break free from its mooring.
The boat did a U-turn, damaging several other vessels before crashing into rocks.
One of the small yachts the trawler dragged along has sunk.
It took around 3 hours to extinguish the blaze.
Police say the one crew member who was on board at the time was intoxicated, but wasn’t seriously injured.
