It was labelled harness racing’s version of the famous Final Cotton scandal, and the trainer who claims to have accidentally swapped one horse for another in a race at Narrabri has now been suspended.
Final Count won the second race at Narrabri on March 9, but it later emerged a better performed stablemate was actually the horse that competed.
It was heavily backed on-course.
Trainer Robert Clement’s fate has been referred to the board of directors, while stewards have admitted they didn’t do a mandatory check of the horse’s brandings before the race.
