MAN ARRESTED OVER SEXUAL ASSAULT OF 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN BUSHLAND

A man has been arrested after a 12-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in Lismore.

She was allegedly approached in the CBD last night before being attacked in nearby bushland.

“It’s an extremely concerning offence to us. A young girl, walking in the streets at relatively early time – 6pm at night – to be assaulted in such fashion is absolutely disgusting,” Acting Commander of the Richmond Police District, Cameron Lindsay, said.

Officers arrested a 38-year-old at a house this morning, seizing several items including a mobile phone.

He’s expected to be charged later tonight.
