22,000 SUSPECTED MDMA PILLS SEIZED IN THE NORTHERN RIVERS

Three men in their 30s, have been charged with supplying a commercial quantity of drugs in the Lismore region. Police raided a home at Tuckombil yesterday and Alstonville today – allegedly seizing more than 22,000 pills believed to be MDMA. “These are the type of pills that have been killing people at these festivals, these are very dangerous drugs, they kill people and that’s 22,000 pills that are now not in the community, not at these dance festivals and we’re very happy with this outcome.” Other drugs, firearms, gold bars and knives were also allegedly located at the two properties. MEN CHARGED FOLLOWING POLICE PURSUIT

Two men have been charged over a pursuit south of Lismore. Police allege the pair broke into a Bungawalbin home at around 9 o’clock yesterday morning – threatening an occupant with a knife before fleeing in a Toyota Yaris, believed to have been stolen from Queensland. They say they attempted to stop the car several times, before the men, aged 20 and 16, abandoned it and fled into bushland. Both were taken to Lismore Police Station, where they were charged with aggrevated break and enter with intent, and possess prohibited drug. The older man was charged with multiple driving offences. Both were refused bail and will face Lismore Local Court today.

FUNDS FLOOD INTO LISMORE

The region is being inundated with election promises, the latest coming from Labor, committing to a $12-million National Institute for Flood Resilience at Southern Cross University. The Institute will include a new network of smart sensors and the establishment of a Flood Response Centre. “It means greater capacity for research but also greater capacity to put that research into practice in the local community to work closely with landholders to better predict floods.” Labor says the Institute will complement the existing National Centre for Flood Research.
