TWEED COUNCILLOR CALLS FOR DRONES ABOVE LOCAL BEACHES

Tweed Shire Council is under pressure to buy six new drones, following a fatal shark attack south of Kingscliff earlier this month.

Councillor Reece Byrnes is calling for increased monitoring at far north coast beaches, saying the drones could be loaned out to surf life saving clubs.

“We need these drones, the time for talk is over, we need action. We’re not getting that from the state at the moment so that’s why I want council to act,” Cr Byrnes said.

An online petition has been launched, with the proposal to be debated at council’s August meeting.
