DRIVER DISQUALIFIED UNTIL 2064 LEADS POLICE ON CHASE THROUGH THE HUNTER

A driver whose licence was already disqualified until 2064 has been charged for allegedly leading police on a chase through Lake Macquarie and Newcastle.

Police say the pursuit began around 8pm on Thursday, when officers from the Target Action Group tried to stop an unregistered red Mitsubishi Lancer on South Street Windale.

The vehicle allegedly sped off and the pursuit began.

Police allege they chased the car down the Newcastle Inter City Bypass at speeds of 120km/h, in a sign-posted 70 zone.

The driver also led police through Garden suburb, Cardiff and Glendale.

The pursuit ended at Wallsend when the Lancer’s tyres popped after hitting the gutter at Minmi Road.

Checks revealed the 27-year-old driver was serving a licence suspension until 2064.

Police charged him with police pursuit – not stop, driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle and driving while disqualified.

He was refused bail, to appear at Newcastle Court today.

The driver is also expected to be charged with resisting arrest.

Police also allege there were three occupants in the car.

A 21-year-old female passenger was charged with possessing a prohibited drug.

One was released without charge.

While another male occupant was taken to John Hunter Hospital, with injuries unrelated to the chase or arrest.
