LAKE MACQUARIE MAN CHARGED AFTER ALLEGEDLY THREATENING POLICE WITH LOADED SPEARGUN

A man will face court today after allegedly pointing a loaded speargun at police near Morisset yesterday.

Around 8:40pm, the 43-year-old was at a home in Mirrabooka when he tried to get into a neighbouring property on Mooranga Road and began yelling at the owner.

Concerned residents called police, and officers arrived to find the man in the front yard of the property, when he allegedly pointed a loaded speargun towards them.

After a short struggle, the man was disarmed, arrested and the speargun was seized.

He was taken to Toronto Police Station and charged with a string of offences, including armed with intent to commit indictable offence and assaulting an officer.

He was refused bail to appear at Toronto Local Court today.
