WOMAN KILLED IN NEW ENGLAND HIGHWAY CRASH

A 34-year-old woman had died, while two others including a 10-year-old girl are fighting for life in hospital, after a crash near Glen Innes.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on the New England Highway, 20 kilometres north of the township, at around 7:30 on Sunday evening.

It’s understood the car left the road and rolled several times, before it caught fire.

The woman, who was a front seat passenger in the Hyundai Tucson, died at the scene.

The driver, a 22-year-old man, suffered severe burns, while the 10-year-old girl suffered serious internal injuries.

Both were flown to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital for treatment.

An investigation into what caused the crash is underway.
