SHARK VICTIM: “WRONG PLACE, WRONG TIME.”

The surfer attacked by a Great White on the mid north coast yesterday has brushed off the incident, saying he just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

62-year-old Colin Rowland spoke to the Nine Network from his bed in Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital.

“It’s not the shark’s fault, I was in his territory, I was in the wrong place the wrong time,” he said.

He says in more than 50 years of surfing, he’s never seen a shark.

Colin says the shark was more than 4 metres long. Shark experts are looking at his surfboard which has a sizeable chunk out of it, to help determine the shark’s length.

He has 20 stitches in his foot, which was shredded when he kicked the shark in the teeth.

Colin was surfing at Booti Booti Headland south of Forster when he was attacked around 9am.

The New South Wales Government has already started putting in 5 drumlines in the area, including off Booti Booti National Park.
