The 38-year-old pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to manslaughter, claiming he was “substantially impaired” at the time because he suffers from Aspergers syndrome and has depression.
However he was found guilty of murder at the end of his two week trial in Newcastle supreme court on Friday.
Today Justice Ian Harrison heard submissions from both the crown and defence, and is expected to hand down his sentence next Thursday.
