PRESSURE ON ANDREW JOHNS TO FRONT INQUIRY

Pressure it mounting on Andrew Johns and former jockey Allan Robinson to front the inquiry into the More Joyous scandal.

The pair didn’t attend the hearing yesterday but have been identified as pivotal players, along with punter Eddie Hayson in the stoush which was sparked by John Singleton’s comments after More Joyous ran second last in the All Aged Stakes at Randwick last month.

Singleton publicly sacked Gai Waterhouse as his trainer after the race, saying her bookmaker son Tom Waterhouse had told people the mare could not win.

Johns and Robinson were both named as people who had spoken to Singleton on race day.

Chief steward Ray Murrihy said “There are a lot of links in the chain and it’s disappointing Andrew Johns doesn’t come and have his evidence tested.”

The footballer and Robinson tendered a statement to the inquiry but their phone records, obtained via the Telecommunications Act, did not match with the calls they said they made.

It is thought Robinson called Singleton on race day and said the footballer had told him the horse could not win.

The inquiry has been adjourned to give Johns, Robinson Hayson one last chance to appear.
