Police call for info after surfer murdered by Coffs Harbour beach

Homicide detectives investigating the death of a surfer who was fatally stabbed at a beach on the NSW Mid North Coast last week are calling for the public’s help.

Kye Schaefer, 21, was found with significant stab wounds beside a car on Ocean Parade at Coffs Harbour about 6.40am on May 2.

It is believed he was attacked during an altercation after leaving the water.

He was taken to Coffs Harbour Base Hospital for treatment, where he later died.

As investigations continue, strike force detectives are appealing to identify a man riding a bicycle in the area at the time of the incident.

They are also appealing for witnesses – or anyone who may have dashcam footage – in the vicinity of the Coffs Harbour Surf Club and the Orlando Street area at the time of the incident.
