MAJOR FLOOD WARNING FOR TWEED

Volunteers have started door knocking around South Murwillumbah where the Tweed River is expected to hit a peak of five metres around 6pm tonight (Monday).

The Tweed River was at 4.41 metres and rising at lunchtime in Murwillumbah. A major flood warning has been by the SES for the town.

A handful of people have left their homes so far, and an evacuation centre has been set up at the town’s Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

The SES says between 120 and 200 people have been isolated in the area. 500 calls for help have been received by the SES in the Richmond Tweed area.
