STORM WREAKS HAVOC ACROSS HUNTER

Last night’s storm caused havoc across the Hunter, cutting off power to around 5500 people at its peak.

A severe weather warning was issued by the Bureau of Meterology at about 7:30 last night, as the storm spread across the Hunter hitting Maitland, Dungog, Raymond Terrace and Newcastle.

It is estimated 3500 homes were without power for about an hour in the Newcastle suburbs of Cooks Hill and Bar Beach and The Junction.

But the worst affected by the shortages were residents from Thornton to Paterson, where it took up to 4 hours to restore power.

1500 residents from Tanilba Bay through to Lemon Tree Passage were also hit.

The wild weather also forced a helicopter to make an unscheduled landing in Bulahdelah and trees to come down in Tomago and Beresfield.
