MOTORISTS SPEED TO SEE GHOSTLY RIDER

The thrill of seeing a ghostly motorbike rider, is apparently the reason behind a spate of reckless high speed driving incidents in Port Stephens.

Several videos have appeared on You-tube which appear to show a light tailing speeding vehicles along Lemon Tree Passage Road, before vanishing into thin air.

  1. they need to let him R.I.P if he really is there but then young hoons will have any reason to speed i just crnt imagine how his family wld feel having to hear about it again after so long

  2. I lived in Lemon Tree Passage 1991 – 1992 and saw these lights several times, my husband saw them, and my daughter and her then boyfriend. They appeared near Rookes Road, there was a roadside memorial beside the road on Lemon Tree Passage Road. The lights appeared, got near to the car and then disappeared near the Rookes Road corner.
As to them being the ghost of someone killed in 2007, well I don’t think so, unless there are two ghosts!!!!
Both my daughters and sons in law know the story as I am sure many other people who live (or lived) on Tomaree or Tilligery Peninsulars.
So my suggestion is to check the story further and interview some of the older residents.

  3. I remember hearing of this “ghost” back when I first got my P’s. That was in 2005. Some mates and I even went looking for it a few times, never seen anything.

  4. There is another phenomenon between Byron Bay and Mullumbimby called the Tyagrah Ghost , you don’ hear much about it anymore since the highway upgrade, but in the years prevailing, many a strange encounter was observed by sober motorists, usually when it was raining a female in a bright yellow raincoat would be hitchhiking along the lonely Tyagrah straight, one story a mate of mine who was accompanied by his workmate gave a raincoat clad lass a lift from from near the airfield at Tyagrah to the Mullum turnoff at Uncle Toms pies, dripping wet and pouring rain my mate being a gentleman jumped out thinking something was wrong and she apparently just got in the car which was a Ute, so ol mate gets in beside her she said Mullumbimby and smiled at them, upon the short drive to the turnoff they tried to chat her up, but said she just looked straight ahead with her raincoat hood covering her face, The boys thought she was a bit weird and pulled up short of the turn off horrified she had vanished.
She was sitting between them one minute and gone leaving only a wet seat.
My mate reckons, this is a fairdinkum true story because both of them never remembered her getting out of the car and only said something after other story’s of the same type of events came forward, so the lights down your way is probably the same type of unexplained occurrence.

  5. While there have been several tragic accidents on this stretch of straight road and others in Port Stephens Shire, its has been because of stupidity & wrecklessness by a very small minority. Why should the rest of us suffer?
The unnecessarily reduced speed limits cause frustration and congestion when most roads are in the best condition they’ve ever been in, despite the odd pothole recently. Sydney is screaming to ease congestion, we’re creating it.
With a high level of retirees in the area and many drivers unwilling to even maintain the now lower speed limits, it has increased travel times within the shire severly hampering productivity, forcing price rises & now gives the state government yet another revenue raiser. RETURN TO SENSIBLE SPEED LIMITS

  6. My daughter saw this light when she was driving in 1998. I at the time though her friends were just stirring her but she assured me that she saw the light in the revision mirror and I could tell she definately believed what she saw.
Some years later my whole family were in the car and my husband notice a light following us and then it just vanished. We were the only car on the road at this time. We dismissed it joking it may have been the light our daughter had seen years previoulsy.
Within the last 12months I was travelling home from Newcastle one Thursday night and thinking how quite it was on the road – no traffic along Nelson Bay Rd behind me or in the opposite direction. After turning into Lemon Tree Passage Rd and passing the houses at Salt Ash, I thought how quite it was again as only 2 houses had lights on. There were the street 3 street lights near the houses, the last light being the street light just prior to the tennis court. As I drove along Lemon Tree Passage Rd I was thinking how quite the area appearsed as there was no movement anywhere and no other houses along the road showing lights. I thought strange as it was only around 10pm and a Thursday night.
A light appeared in my rear vision mirror and of course it caught my attention as I thought someone must have been really speeding to catch me or someone had just come out of one of the houses which was around the bend prior to the Tenis
Court. I watched this single white light trying to figure out what is was. As I have always been curious about the story I wondered if this could be what people had been seeing. It could not have been the light near the tennis court as this was higher up. The light never seemed to catch up or fade but appear consistant all the way. The light was definately at road level on a perfectly straight road. On approaching the Browns Rd turnoff I slowed down to 10k’s keeping the light in my view and was just about to stop my car when the light just vanished. The light did not deviate in any way untill it just disappeared.
I have tried to logically explain the light but must confess it has me beat at this stage.

  7. For the sake of road authorities, as well as locals and others. They should get someone to ‘exorcise’ the area – for peace of mind perhaps, and place road caution signs where necessary, even a proper memorial/service if people feel the need to reflect upon the place in sympathy of the victim.

For the thrill-seekers, who only want to risk their lives and maybe ‘provoking’ this spirit/s, they have no respect for the dead as well as the living if they include friends and family to see this phenomena.
