JURY DELIBERATING IN MERRICK MURDER TRIAL

A Supreme Court jury has begun deliberating in the murder trial of Hunter Valley man, Ross Merrick.

The 12 jurors retired at around one o’clock, after Justice Helen Wilson delivered her closing address in the three-week case.

Merrick is accused of hitting his girlfriend, Marika Ninness, in the head in an East Maitland carpark in December 2013 – resulting in her death two weeks later.

The jury this afternoon requested a copy of the transcript from the trial.

Deliberations will continue tomorrow.
