SUCCESSFUL RETURN FOR THOMAS FRASER-HOLMES

The Hunter’s Thomas Fraser-Holmes has made a successful return to swimming’s international arena, bagging a silver medal in the men’s 400 metre individual medley at the world short-course championships in China. LEONHARDT IN HOT FORM AT NATIONALS

Port Macquarie swimming sensation Paige Leonhardt has again impressed in the pool, booking a spot in the finals of the Australian Championships. The 16-year-old Paralympian placed fourth in the 100-metre multi-class butterfly this morning, shaving more than two seconds off the Australia S10 record for her age group, which she previously held. Leonhardt will return to the pool tonight to fight for the national title and a chance to compete at the World Championships.

EVERINGHAM MAKING A SPLASH AT AUS TITLES

Port Macquarie swimmer Mekayla Everingham has missed out on qualifying for the World Titles in the 100 metre breaststroke. The 19-year-old placed 12th in her preliminary heat at the Australian Championships this morning. It followed an impressive 8th place finish in last night’s 50 metre final. Everingham will have one last shot at qualifying in the 200 metre breaststroke on Wednesday.

SUPERHEROES TEACH SWIM SAFETY

Superheroes in speedos have taught some of the Far North Coast’s smallest swimmers, a potentially life-saving lesson. The youngsters were shown what to do in an emergency, during a colourful water safety class this morning. “A lot of kids have pools, beaches lakes, even bathtubs and their getting cool for the summer, so we definitely need to promote it.” The class was held at the Goonellabah Sports and Aquatic Centre, as part of ‘National Swim Safer’ week.
