POLICE CAR INVOLVED IN HIGHWAY CRASH

Two people, including a police officer, were taken to hospital this afternoon following a crash on the Pacific Highway, north of Port Macquarie. A highway patrol car was turning to pursue a southbound vehicle near Cooperabung, when another car slammed into it. The officer was taken Port Macquarie Base Hospital suffering minor injuries, while the 72-year-old female passenger of the other vehicle was hospitalised as a precaution.

FEEDBACK ON CLARENCE BRIDGE PLANS SOUGHT

Roads and Maritime Services is seeking community feedback on plans for a 1,500 metre bridge, to span the Clarence River at Harwood. Once built, the four lane structure will sit 30 metres downstream from the existing crossing. The bridge is one of two being built across the different parts of the waterway, during the $4.3 billion Ballina to Woolgoolga Pacific Highway upgrade. (VISION ONLY)

DASHCAM CAPTURES DRAMATIC TRUCK ROLL

Dramatic dashcam video has surfaced of a cattle truck accident on the Pacific Highway, north of Port Macquarie. The camera captured the moment the rig tipped on its side yesterday, while rounding a bend in a 60 kilometre-an-hour roadworks zone. The driver was lucky to escape injury, but some cattle had to be put down. Police are investigating.

TRUCK ROLL CAUSES LENGTHY HIGHWAY DELAYS

A driver was lucky to avoid serious injury, when his cattle truck rolled on the Pacific Highway north of Port Macquarie this morning. The accident happened near the Blackmans Point Interchange shortly after 6:30. It caused lengthy delays on the highway, with southbound traffic banked up several kilometres.

CLOSE CALL ON PACIFIC HIGHWAY

An elderly driver is lucky to be alive, after a collision on the Pacific Highway near Herons Creek this afternoon. Police say the woman pulled out into oncoming traffic and was hit by another car, causing her to lose control of the sedan. She veered straight through the opposite lane of traffic and down an embankment. Miraculously, the driver was uninjured.

ALLEGED DRUNK DRIVER CRASHES CAR ON HIGHWAY

Police allege a driver, who crashed his car near Coffs Harbour, had a blood alcohol reading more than five times the legal limit. The 30-year-old man’s car was extensively damaged when he lost control on the Pacific Highway at Sapphire at around 9pm last night, and hit a barrier fence. Police say they’d been alerted to a car being driven erratically and without its headlights on. Officers allege, after failing a roadside breath test, the man returned a reading of .261 at the police station… and was also found to have a cancelled licence.
