FOLAU INJURED IN WARATAHS WIN OVER BRUMBIES

The Waratahs have suffered a Super Rugby setback, with Israel Folau expected to miss a month after suffering a hamstring injury in Canberra. The star winger limped off the field after just three minutes against the Brumbies. But it didn’t stop the Tahs’ opening up the home side. The New South Wales pack, including the Hunter’s Harry Johnson-Holmes, monstered the Brumbies in the second half… running out 24 to 17 winners. The Tahs are now second in the Australian conference.

QUIRINDI’S SAM CARTER RULED OUT OF NSW WARATAHS CLASH

Quirindi’s Sam Carter will miss the Brumbies clash, with the New South Wales Waratahs tomorrow night, as the ACT co-captain takes extra precautions in his return from concussion. Carter completed his first full contact training session this week, as he deals with ongoing symptoms since the March 9 injury. At this stage it’s expected Carter will return next weekend, when the Brumbies host the Queensland Reds. ALEX NEWSOME TO MAKE STARTING DEBUT FOR NSW WARATAHS

Glen Innes rugby star, Alex Newsome is set to make his starting debut for the New South Wales Waratahs on the weekend, when they face the Jaguares in Buenos Aires. Newsome replaces Andrew Kellaway on the right wing, following impressive performances off the bench in the opening two rounds. The Tahs have made a solid start to the Super Rugby season, with a first-up win over the Stomers, followed-up by a 24-all draw with the Sharks. NEWSOME AND RYAN NAMED IN WARATAHS SUPER RUGBY OPENER

Glen Innes rugby star Alex Newsome has been selected on the bench for the New South Wales Waratahs, in their opening Super Rugby match this Saturday night. Newsome signed a two-year deal with the Waratahs late last year, following the demise of the Western Force. ALEX NEWSOME MAKING HIS MARK AT NSW WARATAHS

Glen Innes rugby player Alex Newsome continues to push his case for a starting spot in the New South Wales Waratahs line-up for game one of the Super Rugby season. While experiencing mixed results on the opening day of the Brisbane Global Rugby 10s, the Waratahs recruit has been a revelation for his new team, following the demise of the Western Force. PADDY RYAN AND ALEX NEWSOME RETURN TO TRAINING PADDOCK

Having returned home to their old stomping grounds during the festive season, Tamworth’s Paddy Ryan and Glen Innes’ Alex Newsome were back on the training paddock yesterday, as the NSW Waratahs resumed training in Sydney. Ryan is no stranger to the big smoke, having being part of the Tahs setup since 2011. For Newsome though, it’s all a new ball game, in what will be his debut season for the state side. NEWSOME RETURNS TO NSW

Glen Innes-born rugby union star Alex Newsome has signed a two year deal with the New South Wales Waratahs. The move follows the demise of the Western Force, the team 22 year old made his Super Rugby debut for this year. He’ll join fellow north west product Paddy Ryan in sky blue next season. (no audio)

PADDY RYAN IMPRESSES IN ROUND ONE

Tamworth’s Paddy Ryan impressed in his first outing for the Waratahs last night at loosehead prop. The 27-year-old was promoted in place of former Wallaby, Benn Robinson, for his work rate. Ryan powered through the 80 minutes, switching to his preferred position of tighthead late in the match. After the Tahs’ 20-point win in the season opener, he’s hopeful of retaining the number one jersey for next Friday night’s clash against the Brumbies. (NO AUDIO)

Tamworth’s Paddy Ryan has been named to start in the New South Wales Waratahs opening Super Rugby match this weekend against Queensland. He’ll be in unfamiliar territory though, shifting to the loosehead side of the scrum. After being stuck behind two Wallabeis regulars since his 20-11 debut, the 26-year-old is hoping this season is his chance to shine, and add to his three appearances in the green and gold.
