SEARCH CONCLUDES, INVESTIGATION CONTINUES AFTER HUMAN REMAINS FOUND AT MOREE

Investigators have wrapped up a four-day search, after human remains were discovered on the bank of the Mehi River in Moree, on New Year’s Day. A number of items, along with the skeletal remains, have been sent to Newcastle for forensic examination. Police say it will be several weeks before the results of DNA testing are known. WOMAN TREATED FOR HEAD INJURY AFTER HORSE FALL NEAR MOREE

A woman in her 60s has been flown to hospital after falling from a horse in the state’s north west. Emergency services were called to Garah, near Moree late on Saturday afternoon, where they found a woman who had suffered a head injury. She was treated at the scene by paramedics and the Tamworth-based Westpac Rescue Helicopter’s clinical team, before being flown to Tamworth Hospital in a stable condition.

MAN KILLED IN NORTH WEST GYROCOPTER CRASH

An investigation is underway after a 50-year-old man died in a gyrocopter crash near Moree. Emergency services were called to a property on Mount Jerrybang Road east of the town at around 1 o’clock on Sunday afternoon, where they found the body of the man. Initial reports suggest the aircraft had crashed into a piece of farming equipment. No one else was injured.

FENTANYL AND CASH STOLEN FROM MOREE PHARMACY

Prescription drugs and a sum of cash have been stolen from a pharmacy in the North-West of New South Wales. A group of three men, one of whom was armed with a knife, entered the pharmacy on Amaroo Drive in Moree shortly before 2pm yesterday, and threatened the two female staff members. The men, who were wearing masks, took a quantity of cash and Fentanyl patches from a safe before fleeing in a vehicle stolen from one of the staff. The car was dumped nearby before the offenders escaped on foot. Two of the males were wearing black pants and black jumpers, while the third male was wearing a black jumper and green camouflage pants. Police have urged anyone with information about the robbery to come forward.

STAFF CONFRONT THIEF DURING ATTEMPTED ROBBERY

A would-be thief has been left empty-handed, after being confronted during an attempted robbery. According to police, the male intruder threatened an employee at a Moree newsagency with a knife at around 7-o’clock this morning. He was forced to flee, when he was confronted by another worker – who’d heard the commotion from the back of the store. He was last seen running across Gosport Street towards the Newell Highway. The man is described as being quite tall with a large build. He was seen wearing a grey hooded jumper, black track pants and black runners with white soles.
