FENTANYL AND CASH STOLEN FROM MOREE PHARMACY

Prescription drugs and a sum of cash have been stolen from a pharmacy in the North-West of New South Wales. A group of three men, one of whom was armed with a knife, entered the pharmacy on Amaroo Drive in Moree shortly before 2pm yesterday, and threatened the two female staff members. The men, who were wearing masks, took a quantity of cash and Fentanyl patches from a safe before fleeing in a vehicle stolen from one of the staff. The car was dumped nearby before the offenders escaped on foot. Two of the males were wearing black pants and black jumpers, while the third male was wearing a black jumper and green camouflage pants. Police have urged anyone with information about the robbery to come forward.

STAFF CONFRONT THIEF DURING ATTEMPTED ROBBERY

A would-be thief has been left empty-handed, after being confronted during an attempted robbery. According to police, the male intruder threatened an employee at a Moree newsagency with a knife at around 7-o’clock this morning. He was forced to flee, when he was confronted by another worker – who’d heard the commotion from the back of the store. He was last seen running across Gosport Street towards the Newell Highway. The man is described as being quite tall with a large build. He was seen wearing a grey hooded jumper, black track pants and black runners with white soles.

FIVE TO FACE COURT OVER ALLEGED MOREE BREAK-IN’S

A group of five men will face court in relation to a string of alleged break and enter offences in the north of New South Wales. Over Friday night and Saturday morning, a number commercial businesses in Moree were broken into. Police were alerted to the break-ins around 5am on Saturrday, and they subsequently located five men in Balo Street in Moree. Police allege the group were in possession tools and property from the break-ins. All five, aged between 20 and 60, have been charged with a range of aggravated break and enter offences.

TWO KILLED IN HEAD-ON COLLISION NEAR MOREE

A head-on collision between a sedan and truck has claimed the life of two people in northern NSW. The accident occurred on the Newell Highway, approximately 20 kilometres south of Moree, just after 7:30 this morning. The two passengers of the sedan, a man and a woman, died at the scene. The 42-year-old truck driver was uninjured, and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

TRIO TO FACE COURT OVER ALLEGED MOREE ARMED ROBBERY

Two men and a woman have been charged over an alleged armed robbery in the far north of the state. Early on May 12th, four men and a woman entered a service station on the Newell Highway at Bellata, south of Moree. One of the men was allegedly armed with a rifle Police allege the group stole cash and cigarettes from staff, before fleeing in a stolen Mitsubishi utility. A 26-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were arrested later that day, allegedly following a pursuit in Warialda. The man was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon, and “Skye’s Law”, among other charges. The woman was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon, and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime. Both will appear in court next month. CONVICTED KILLER IAN TURNBULL DIES IN SYDNEY HOSPITAL

Croppa Creek farmer and convicted killer Ian Turnbull has died in a Sydney hospital. A spokesperson for Corrective Services says the 82-year-old was taken from Long Bay Jail to Prince of Wales Hospital on March 20 and died yesterday from a terminal illness. The elderly farmer was sentenced to a minimum of 24 years in prison for the shooting murder of New South Wales environmental officer and Tamworth father Glen Turner in 2014.

MOREE WATER PARK ONTO PHASE ONE OF RENOVATIONS

Phase one of the Moree Water Park project is finally underway. Thousands of trees have been planted and gravel laid along the water banks in preparation for solar panels to be installed in the coming weeks. The site will eventually become Moree’s recreational haven, with a clubhouse, sandy beach and pier all included in the plans. (VISION ONLY)
