KNIFE WIELDING MAN CHARGED OVER MORPETH HOLD UP

An East Maitland man has been charged with attempted armed robbery after allegedly trying to hold up the Spar supermarket in Morpeth last night. Police say a 19-year-old entered the store at 7pm wielding a knife and threatening a staff member and an off duty employee. But was not his lucky day, one man behind the counter punched the offender in the face and tried to knock the knife out of his hands. The other man grabbed him in a head lock until until police arrived. The teen was given bail to appear in court again in February.

Hair salon Shear Abilities is fully accessible, with ramps and hoists as well as other features to cater for individual needs. Today it hosted a celebration for International Day of People with a Disability, encouraging other businesses to be more inclusive. PLANE MAKES EMERGENCY LANDING AT MAITLAND AIRPORT

The 65-year-old pilot who was the only person on board the twin engine aircraft, was forced to circle the airport to burn off fuel, after encountering a landing gear issue. The aircraft skidded off the runway and came to rest on grass. The left side of the undercarriage was damaged. A layer of foam was sprayed on the aircraft after it came to rest. HIGH-RANKED OUTLAW BIKIE MEMBER ARRESTED IN MAITLAND

A high-ranking outlaw motorcycle gang member has been charged after allegedly fleeing a road side stop in Chisolm on Monday. The 32-year-old ‘Finks’ member was pulled over by police from the Criminal Groups Squad’s Strike Force Raptor. Police say they tried to arrest the man after he became aggressive and threatening. They say he fled the scene but fronted Maitland Police Station on Wednesday where he was arrested and charged with a string of offences including assaulting police and resisting arrest. The man was refused bail and will appear at Maitland Local Court today.

ARMED MAN HOLDS-UP MAYFIELD PIZZA STORE

Police are searching for a man who robbed a pizza store in Newcastle last night. Armed with an iron bar, he entered the Maitland Road store shortly after 11pm. He threatened four staff members before stealing a small amount of cash from the till and fleeing. The man has been described as being of Asian or Aboriginal in appearance, about 170cm tall with a thin build and brown eyes. At the time of the robbery he was wearing a green hat with a black and white patterned bandanna or balaclava with a white hooded jumper, dark woolly gloves and dark long pants with black sneakers.

22-YEAR-OLD TO FACE COURT AFTER 5-HOUR MAITLAND STANDOFF

A five-hour standoff in the Hunter Valley yesterday has ended without incident. Police were patrolling Maize Street in Tenambit at around 9:30am yesterday, when officers claim they saw a man run from a Nissan Patrol parked near a cemetery. Police pursued the man on foot to Card Crescent in Maitland, where he allegedly broke into a unit and refused to come out. Local police officers, along with the rescue unit, specialist police and negotiators were called in to assist in the incident. After five hours, the man left the unit and was arrested. The 22-year-old was charged with a range of offences including two counts of enter enclosed land without lawful excuse, destroy or damage property, and break & enter a house. PUBLIC ASSISTANCE SOUGHT AFTER HUNTER VALLEY MAN IS SHOT

Police are appealing for information after a man turned up to a Hunter Valley hospital with a gunshot wound. The 22-year-old arrived at Maitland Hospital just before 5pm yesterday with a single gunshot wound to his left hand. The circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown and police are urging any witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers. The man was treated and has since been released.
