HIGH-RANKED OUTLAW BIKIE MEMBER ARRESTED IN MAITLAND

A high-ranking outlaw motorcycle gang member has been charged after allegedly fleeing a road side stop in Chisolm on Monday. The 32-year-old ‘Finks’ member was pulled over by police from the Criminal Groups Squad’s Strike Force Raptor. Police say they tried to arrest the man after he became aggressive and threatening. They say he fled the scene but fronted Maitland Police Station on Wednesday where he was arrested and charged with a string of offences including assaulting police and resisting arrest. The man was refused bail and will appear at Maitland Local Court today.

ARMED MAN HOLDS-UP MAYFIELD PIZZA STORE

Police are searching for a man who robbed a pizza store in Newcastle last night. Armed with an iron bar, he entered the Maitland Road store shortly after 11pm. He threatened four staff members before stealing a small amount of cash from the till and fleeing. The man has been described as being of Asian or Aboriginal in appearance, about 170cm tall with a thin build and brown eyes. At the time of the robbery he was wearing a green hat with a black and white patterned bandanna or balaclava with a white hooded jumper, dark woolly gloves and dark long pants with black sneakers.

22-YEAR-OLD TO FACE COURT AFTER 5-HOUR MAITLAND STANDOFF

A five-hour standoff in the Hunter Valley yesterday has ended without incident. Police were patrolling Maize Street in Tenambit at around 9:30am yesterday, when officers claim they saw a man run from a Nissan Patrol parked near a cemetery. Police pursued the man on foot to Card Crescent in Maitland, where he allegedly broke into a unit and refused to come out. Local police officers, along with the rescue unit, specialist police and negotiators were called in to assist in the incident. After five hours, the man left the unit and was arrested. The 22-year-old was charged with a range of offences including two counts of enter enclosed land without lawful excuse, destroy or damage property, and break & enter a house. PUBLIC ASSISTANCE SOUGHT AFTER HUNTER VALLEY MAN IS SHOT

Police are appealing for information after a man turned up to a Hunter Valley hospital with a gunshot wound. The 22-year-old arrived at Maitland Hospital just before 5pm yesterday with a single gunshot wound to his left hand. The circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown and police are urging any witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers. The man was treated and has since been released.

CHARGES LAID OVER ALLEGED MAITLAND POLICE PURSUIT

A man who allegedly led police on a vehicle pursuit before being arrested in bushland in the Hunter Valley is set to face court over the incident. Officers initially observed a Holden Commodore allegedly speeding along High Street in Maitland shortly after 9pm on Wednesday. Police say they started a pursuit, that continued onto the New England Highway before coming to an end when the Holden allegedly had a minor collision with a car stopped at a roundabout. It’s then alleged the driver allegedly ran from the scene, before being arrested in bushland about 2km away. He was taken to Maitland Hospital and was charged with a number of offences including police pursuit – not stop, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, and use unregistered motor vehicle.

MAN ARRESTED AFTER LEADING POLICE ON FOOTCHASE THROUGH BUSHLAND

A man has led police on a foot chase through bushland following a vehicle pursuit in the Hunter Valley. Shortly after 9 o’clock last night, police on High Street in Maitland observed a Holden Commodore allegedly travelling above the speed limit. The driver failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated that continued onto the New England Highway towards Buchannan. The vehicle pursuit ended when the Holden had a minor collision with a stationary Subaru Outback wagon waiting at a roundabout. The driver then ran from the scene, but with the assistance of the dog unit, he was arrested in bushland about two kilometres away. He was taken to Maitland Hospital under police guard. Police expect to lay charges once the man is released.

VICTIM PUNCHED IN THE FACE DURING ATTEMPTED HOLD UP

A man was punched in the face during an attempted hold up near Maitland overnight. Shortly before 9pm, a 24-year-old was walking across the Telarah Oval, when he was approached by an unknown man. The man demanded cash, before punching the 24-year-old to the face. The victim ran from the scene and contacted police. The man is described as being aged in his early 20’s, of thin build, and approximately 175cm tall. He was last seen wearing black shorts and no shirt.

ANOTHER FATALITY ON HUNTER ROADS AS MOTORCYCLIST KILLED IN WOODVILLE

A motorcyclist has been killed after his vehicle collided with a turning vehicle near Maitland. Just before 6pm yesterday, a BMW motorcycle was travelling along Clarence Town Road in Woodville, when it crashed into a Holden Statesman that was turning into a driveway. The motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and sustained significant injuries. The rider, believed to be a male in his 40’s, was taken to John Hunter Hospital but was pronounced dead. The 52-year-old male driver of the Holden was uninjured. He was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.
