POLICE APPEAL FOR ASSISTANCE AFTER CAR FATALLY HITS PEDESTRIAN

Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward after a pedestrian was killed by a vehicle that failed to stop at Maitland last night.

At about 11:30pm, emergency services were called to Flat Road, near the intersection of Paterson Road, Bolwarra, follwoing reports of a crash.

Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District attended the crash to find a male pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle.

The 62-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The vehicle left the crash scene and was last seen travelling south on Paterson Road.

Investigators are now appealing for anyone who may have seen the crash, have dashcam footage, or information about the vehicle involved to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
