TEEN CHARGED OVER ALLEGED THEFT OF NUMBER PLATES

A teenager accused of stealing number plates from cars triggered a police pursuit from Edgeworth to West Wallsend overnight. Police were patrolling around Edgeworth, shortly after 10:30pm when they spotted a Honda Integra on Neilson Street without number plates. They attempted to pull the car over, but it allegedly sped away. The pursuit continued through the suburbs of Edgeworth, Barnsley, and Holmesville, before coming to an end in West Wallsend when the Honda failed to negotiate a turn and crashed into the gutter. A 17-year old male was arrested after a short foot pursuit. He was charged with police pursuit, driving an unregistered vehicle, stealing, and goods in custody.

POLICE PURSUIT AT LAKE MACQUARIE

Police are hunting for a man, following a pursuit at Lake Macquarie last night. At around 8.20pm, officers tried to pull over a Toyota utility to breath test the driver on South Street at Windale. Police say the male driver failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated. He got out of the car and fled at the intersection of James and Munro Streets. The car rolled backwards and hit the police car, but no one was injured. Officers spoke with a female passenger, and are continuing with their inquiries to find the driver.

LAKE MACQUARIE ATHLETES BOUND FOR LITHUANIA

A group of Lake Macquarie athletes are bound for the International Children’s Games in Lithuania. The team of 12 track and field athletes will be among 1500 competitors from more than 80 cities competing in Kaunas from 4-9 July. Lake Macquarie has been a regular participant in the International Children’s Games since 2008 and became the first Australian city to host the event in 2014. The team is managed by the Hunter Academy of Sport, and will be accompanied by the Mayor of Lake Macquarie, Councillor Kay Fraser, as Council’s representative.

SIX ARRESTED IN CAMERON PARK SEARCH WARRANT

The execution of a search warrant in Lake Macquarie led to the arrest of six people yesterday. Investigations into car thefts in the Lake Macquarie and Newcastle area over the past few months led police to a house in Springvale Circuit in Cameron Park, where the search warrant was executed just before 11:30am. Police allegedly located a number of items suspected of being stolen, including a car, during the search. Police say a 24-year-old man was also located in the roof cavity and was arrested. Five other males, aged between 32 and 17, were also arrested. They were charged with a range of offences, including larceny, and carried in a conveyance.

TEEN ALLEGEDLY INVOLVED IN BELMONT POLICE PURSUIT

Police will allege a 14-year-old boy was behind the wheel of a car involved in a pursuit near Lake Macquarie this morning. Police say the vehicle failed to stop for a random breath test on the Pacific Highway in Belmont around 4:30am. The chase ended on Milray Street in Swansea, when the car hit a fence. The driver was arrested following a short foot pursuit. He was charged with unlicensed driver, take and drive conveyance, and drive manner dangerous police pursuit. Police say the boy will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.

61-YEAR-OLD TO FACE COURT OVER ALLEGED SEXUAL ASSAULTS

A man has been charged over the alleged sexual assault of three teenage boys at a Lake Macquarie property during the mid-to-late 1990s. Police say the sexual assaults occurred at the Dora Creek home of a then-34-year-old man between 1994 and 1999. The boys were aged 14, 15 and 17 at the time. Police investigations led them Morisset Showground late last month, where they arrested the man. The 61-year-old was charged with three counts of commit act of indecency, homosexual intercourse with a male aged between 10 and 18, and five counts of aggravated sexual assault. He has been remanded in custody and will appear in Newcastle Local Court in June.

BELMONT RESIDENT CHASES OFF ARMED INTRUDER

Police have apprehended a man after he allegedly broke into a property near Lake Macquarie before being chased off by a resident. Around 11am yesterday, police allege the 29-year-old broke into a home on the Pacific Highway in Belmont, armed with a knife. An 18-year-old male resident confronted the alleged intruder, who fled into a neighbouring high school. He was seen by police travelling on the Pacific Highway, who stopped to intervene. The man was apprehended after a short chase, but not before he allegedly lashed out at the officers. He will appear in court to face charges including aggravated break and enter with intent while armed, assault police and resist arrest.

STOLEN CREDIT CARDS AND DRUGS SEIZED IN CHARLESTOWN

Three people have been arrested and drugs and stolen property have allegedly been seized during a raid on a Charlestown property. Police executed a search warrant at an Ida Street home, just before midday yesterday. They allegedly located stolen credit cards and identification documents, methamphetamine, and other drugs during the search. A 25-year-old man has been charged with larceny and four counts of goods in custody. A 23-year-old man was issued a Court Attendance Notice for breach of bail. A 16-year-old boy will be dealt with under the Young Offenders Act in relation to receiving and fraud offences. It’s part of an ongoing investigation into thefts from cars and the fraudulent use of stolen credits cards in the Lake Macquarie area.
