NEWCASTLE JETS CEO SACKED BY FFA

Six months after being appointed Newcastle Jets CEO, Mitchell Murphy has been sacked by Football Federation Australia. David Eland – head of Northern NSW Football – has been named interim CEO. In a statement, Northern NSW Football didn’t disclose why Mr Murphy had been let go, simply saying: “FFA would like to thank Mitchell Murphy for his role in the initial stages of the transition from the previous owners to the FFA.” Mr Murphy was brought into the role during embattled billionaire Nathan Tinkler’s ownership.

FFA CUP KICKS OFF TONIGHT

The FFA Cup’s Round of 32 kicks off tonight with Broadmeadow hosting Heidelberg, but the competition isn’t far from the minds of Newcastle’s A-League franchise. The Jets face Perth on August 11. “It’s a fantastic competition for A-League clubs to break up the pre-season…It’s a comp we want to win.” As part of their northern New South Wales tour, the Jets have been in Coffs Harbour for two days, trying to inspire a new generation. “The Breakers were great at getting out in the community…They want to be future Jets.” (AUDIO IN PARTS)

SOUTH ARMIDALE TO PLAY BROADMEADOW MAGIC IN FFA CUP

After climbing the ranks of the FFA Cup this season, South Armidale will now face National Premier League side Broadmeadow Magic from Newcastle in the final eight fixture. It’s the furthest the side has ever reached in the short history of the competition. The game will be played at the Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility at 4pm on Saturday June 20.
