ARMIDALE CELEBRATES REFUGEE SETTLEMENT SUCCESS

Celebrations got underway in Armidale this afternoon, as the city recognised its success in refugee settlement.

The area has welcomed several Yazidi refugees over the past year.

Today, local councillors, MPs and refugee families met to discuss the positive integration.

“We find that many who’ve arrived over the past 18 months are making Armidale their ‘home’, which is a wonderful success story for the refugee community, but also for the mainstream community.”

The University of New England also participated in three surveys over the past year.

The results indicated that, despite some initial reservation, students have felt increasingly positive about welcoming refugees to campus.
