PROTESTERS RALLY FOR CSG PROJECT

Tensions are rising in the New South Wales North West, as protests continue outside a Santos coal seam gas wastewater plant near Narrabri.

A 64-year-old farmer, Don McKenzie, from Coonamble has attached himself to the front gates of the Leewood coal seam gas wastewater plant.

“My livelihood is under threat and I’m feeling terrorised by the actions of the federal and state government by allowing Santos to risk our underground water.

“The problems of the Murray Darling River system will pale into insignificance when the water of the Great Artesian Basin is polluted as the whole western part of the state relies on it,” Mr McKenzie said.

More than 100 people have rallied in front of the site, ten people have been arrested over the past three weeks as part of protests at the facility.

Santos says the facilities have been designed and located to minimise environmental, cultural heritage and community impacts
