POLICE OPERATION UNDERWAY INVESTIGATING DISAPPEARANCE OF MISSING GIRLS

A major development today in the 42 year old cases of missing Lake Macquarie teens, Amanda Robinson and Robyn Hickie.

A police operation is underway at Nords Wharf in Lake Macquarie at the site of an old Scout Camp. Detectives attached to Strike Force Arapaima are digging with an excavator, searching for the remains of the missing girls.

It’s believed they will also use radar as part of the search.

The Scout Camp is owned by Diverse Property and is being developed for housing.

Police have taken over the site to carry out their investigation.

18 year old Robyn Hickie was last seen on April 7, 1979 at 7:30pm at a bus stop at Jewells.

Just two weeks later, Amanda Robinson aged 14, vanished from Swansea.

She had jumped off a bus and was walking a short distance home after a school dance.

The former Camp Kanangra Scout Camp is less than 10 kilometres from where Amanda went missing.

On Monday, Police announced two $1-million rewards for information and have asked for anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers or Belmont Police.

We’ll have more on this story at six.
