NORTHERN NSW COVID-19 UPDATE

The Hunter New England has recorded 15 new COVID-19 cases up to 8pm last night.

Kempsey and the Central Coast also both recorded a case, but are not part of today’s 633 cases recorded across the state.

The 15 cases are all from the Hunter region, 10 are from Newcastle LGA, three from Lake Macquarie LGA and two from Maitland LGA.

All are linked to previously reported cases, but seven were infectious while in the community.

Elermore Vale is of most concern with eight cases recorded in the suburb, three were infectious in the community.

145 cases have now been recorded in the current outbreak across the Hunter New England health district.

The case in Kempsey on the Mid North Coast contracted the virus in Newcastle.

The asymptomatic 14-year-old girl travelled back home to Kempsey on Friday, 13 August.

She was tested on Sunday and returned a positive result late yesterday.

Contact tracers are working with the family of the girl and identified close contacts are isolating.

Fragments of the virus have also been found at Yamba which serves about 6,500 people.

The community is urged to monitor for the onset of symptoms, and if they appear, immediately be tested and isolate until a negative result.

More than 36,000 people in New South Wales received a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in the last 24 hours.
