HORSE FLOAT TURNED INTO STATEWIDE TESTING LAB FOR CATTLE ILLNESS

A run-of-the-mill horse float has been transformed into a veterinary service on wheels.

The mobile testing laboratory will travel the state to help farmers prevent, diagnose and treat Bovine Respiratory Disease in their herds.

The illness is the most common cause of death in Australian feedlot cattle.

The project was brought to life after researchers at Charles Sturt University had their testing resources impacted in the pandemic.

“It’ll not only be quicker and faster, it’ll save feedlot owners a lot of money, but it’ll prevent a very common practise in the industry where we use antibiotics to treat illness without quite knowing what it is.”
