HUNTER RECORDS FIRST COVID CASE OF THE OMICRON VARIANT

The Hunter has recorded its first COVID-19 case of the Omicron variant. The individual arrived on flight QF2 from London to Sydney – via Darwin – on December 3 and is now in isolation in the Cessnock LGA.
The region has recorded a total of eight cases overnight – five of which are from Newcastle, two from Maitland and one from Lake Macquarie. Meanwhile, another four have been confirmed in the Mid Coast LGA.
Newcastle’s Argyle House has been listed as an exposure site with four confirmed cases, including an individual likely infectious with Omicron, visiting the nightclub.
Anyone who attended the venue between midnight on Wednesday, December 8 and 3am on Thursday, December 9 is deemed a close contact and is urged to get tested immediately.
Meanwhile, traces of the virus have been detected in sewerage at Raymond Terrace, Boulder Bay, Kurri Kurri, Farley, Toronto, Cessnock and Belmont.
