LAKE CATHIE COULD REACH TRIGGER POINT TODAY

Lake Cathie could soon be opened up to the ocean, with recent rain topping up the Hastings Valley waterway to just under the 1.6 metre trigger point.

As of 4:45am the lake height was 1.599 metres.

Crown Lands granted Port Macquarie-Hastings Council conditional approval to open the ailing waterway at Lake Cathie last week.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, Lake Cathie has recorded 5.4mm in the past 24 hours.

More than 10mm fell further north at Port Macquarie.
