RAYMOND TERRACE FAMILY LEFT SHAKEN AFTER BULLET WAS ALLEGEDLY FIRED INTO THEIR HOUSE

A Hunter family of four say they’re terrified after a bullet was randomly fired at their Raymond Terrace home.

The family, who don’t want to be named for privacy reasons, say they woke on Saturday morning to find a bullet hole in their front door.

Upon searching a nearby shoe rack, the family say they uncovered a .22 calibre bullet lodged in a wall and called police.

It’s alleged a Raymond Terrace man fired the gun into the Benjamin Lee Drive home on Saturday morning at around 2.45am.

The mother told NBN news she was up late but didn’t hear a gunshot.

“I was awake until 2am, had I gone to bed later it could’ve hit me,” she said.

Yesterday, officers from Port-Stephens-Hunter Police District searched a Mazda in Dungog, where they allegedly uncovered a .22 calibre casing in the footwell.

The car was seized for forensic examination.

Later that afternoon police arrested a man at a home in Raymond Terrace.

Following a search of the home, it’s alleged officers uncovered the firearm.

The 19-year-old was charged with a number offences including fire firearm at dwelling/house and possess unauthorised firearm.

He was granted conditional bail to reappear in June.

The family, who’ve been left shaken by the ordeal, say they have no idea who the alleged gunman is.

“I don’t know who he is,” the woman told NBN News.

“It’s a terrifying act, I guess we’re just lucky it wasn’t any worse.”
