WOMAN CHARGED AFTER ALLEGED SPITTING ATTACK

A woman has been charged after allegedly spitting at a police officer during a vehicle stop in Lake Macquarie.

Just after 7.30 yesterday morning, a Subaru Forester was stopped by Highway Patrol on Anzac Parade in Teralba for a random breath test.

Police say the driver, a 30-year-old man, initially refused a drug and alcohol test.

It’s then alleged the passenger, a 20-year-old woman, became verbally abusive before exiting the vehicle, striking the officer in the chest and spitting at him.

Back up officers were called to the scene and the driver was subjected to a roadside drug test.

It’s alleged that test was positive for cannabis.

The man was arrested and taken to Toronto Police Station for further testing.

The woman was charged with two counts of assault officer in execution of duty, and one count each of resist arrest, behave in offensive manner and intimidate police officer.

She’ll front Toronto court in August.

A one-year-old child was inside the vehicle at the time.
