WERRIS CREEK FUMIGATION COMPANY FINED $15,000

Crawfords Freightlines has been fined $15,000 for carrying out fumigation activities outside licensed hours.

The company operates a log fumigation business at Werris Creek, between Quirindi and Tamworth, treating softwood logs by spraying them with pesticides.

A complaint was lodged in November 2019 and the Environment Protection Authority launched an investigation.

It found Crawfords had breached two conditions of its licence and was fumigating outside the permitted hours.

The EPA says the breach potentially put the community and environment at risk.
