POKIES ON THE AGENDA AT BALLINA COUNCIL MEETING

Ballina Shire Council will consider a crackdown on poker machines when it meets tomorrow night.

There are more than 550 machines in the region, which – according to Council’s own records – raked in almost $14-million between June and December last year.

Council will look at whether withdrawing its sponsorship from events at pubs and clubs with pokies would help to combat problem gambling.
