JUVENILE WHALE CAUGHT IN NETTING AT SAWTELL BEACH

Boaties on the Mid North Coast are being asked to keep an eye out for a whale, tangled in netting.

A juvenile humpback whale became entangled off Sawtell Beach yesterday afternoon and rough seas are hampering efforts to locate and free the creature.

Photographs taken by whale-watchers show the netting had wrapped around the young calf’s back and left pectoral fin, stopping above the dorsal fin.

The calf was previously spotted heading south with its mother.
