SURF LIFESAVING CHAMPS LIFT YAMBA’S SPIRITS

World ironman champion Zane Holmes has lent his support to the Yamba surf lifesaving club.

The 103-year old surf club lost $60,000 worth of patrol gear in a fire early last month.

Holmes and local ironwoman Alyce Bennett helped present the club with new cash and equipment.

“It was terrible to hear the news especially with a club like Yamba. I’m just thankful I guess that the whole thing didn’t burn down,” Holmes said.

Bennett, a former Yamba junior, says the fire hit the club hard.

“People don’t have spare boards and spare skis and all the rescue equipment. There’s nothing in reserve.”

The pair also held a training session for club members ahead of next month’s Australian Surf Life Saving Championships on the Gold Coast.
