Orica has reported a release of ammonia gas from it’s Kooragang Island plant.
Just after 1.00pm a build up of pressure triggered a relief valve, which caused the venting of an as yet unknown quantity of gas into the air.
Monitoring stations to the west of the plant detected the release and it was also reported by port workers.
Outdoor workers at Orica’s plant were ordered indoors and emergency services were notified and attended but weren’t required to take further action.
The plant continued operations and investigations into the release are underway.
