A boat hire business at Lake Macquarie has been destroyed by fire, causing up to half a million dollars worth of damage.
The blaze broke out in Lake Macquarie Boat Hire at the Pelican Marina just before noon and was contained before reaching the units above and nearby businesses, including Milanos on the Lake.
Several fire crews entered the business, which contained paint thinners and old fuel tanks.
“There were a lot of dangerous products involved, some disused fuel tanks underneath the building” said NSW Fire Brigade’s Newcastle and Lake Macquarie duty commander Peter Nies.
“90 per cent of the building has been saved so they have done a really good job.”
The owner of the business and two people in the units above managed to escaped, uninjured.
