While airport security ramps up across the country, Armidale airport remains as is – without any security screening.
Under current federal government regulations, only airports with aircraft weighing over 20 tonnes require security screening.
However, with the recent upgrades to Armidale airport – we may be seeing larger aircraft take flight from the region.
“We can just plug in that security screening, for baggage and for passengers, when that need arises and that need will be triggered when we have larger aircraft flying in,” Member for Northern Tablelands, Adam Marshall.
Mr Marshall says if necessary, security screening could be in place within weeks.
