There’s been some relief this morning for residents from Salt Ash, Fullerton Cove and those living near Nelson Bay Road – they’re now able to return home after being evacuated last night.
Leah and Rhys McManus from Medowie spent the night defending their property on Abundance Road.
They were lucky, with the blaze stopping just along their property line.
NBN News caught up with the McManus family this morning, and you can see their story tonight at six.
The Hank Street Fire however, is still burning in the area of Lisadell Road.
More than 80 firefighters are on scene.
Newcastle Airport has reopened, and by midday flights should be operating on schedule.
