As we get some relief from the big wet, those turning to their gardens in the Tweed are being reminded not to dump green waste into or near forested wetlands.
Illegal dumping is becoming an issue at a large section of wetlands west of Pottsville, contributing to more than 104 weed species in the park.
“They’ll change the ecology of the wetlands so they’ll smother areas on the ground so native plants can’t regenerate and they’re replace plants fauna rely on for food.”
Residents are being urged to dispose of garden waste in the green organic bins.
