Energex has been forced to pull the plug on a community meeting about new power lines after frustrated residents turned their anger on staff.
The company sent its employees away claiming they’d been verbally abused and threatened with physical harm.

These senior members of our community should be ashamed for treating those ENERGEX staff the way they did – it is completely inappropriate. When I heard the girl asking that woman to stop yelling and she responded saying she’ll continue yelling if she wants to, I felt so sorry for those girls. And, when she’s telling the other girls she doesn’t care about anything – that’s just not fair.
Sure, those people at the protest might not like what they’re being told, but those girls are just doing a job and don’t deserve to be treated like that. I can’t imagine what the rest of the hour of abuse was like for them. These people are old enough to know better and to know that dismissing common courtesy is unacceptable behaviour.
That woman in the red shirt should be making a formal apology to those energex girls for being so rude and yelling and abusing them like that. I spoke to those girls yesterday and they were really helpful and friendly. I don’t like the powerlines, but the girls are just doing their jobs. No wonder energex cancelled the meeting.
If I was those energex girls I would have want to punch that lady in the face!!!! The other one sayin the girls weren’t abused… Must be blind. Don’t know how She missed the one going off her head at them. I feel real sorry for the energex girls but they seemed real calm about it.
There are some residents who are close to the project area who are just plain rude and threatening to these staff. I’m surprised energex did not consider having some burly male staff to bring some of these bogan residents into line. Good on them for packing up early. If anyone spoke to me like that, I’d clip them over the ear regardless of who I worked for. If these residents don’t like it, the need to be lobying the energy Minister instead and forget dealing with energex directly. He is their boss anyway?!?
There was a day when things like the one in the red shirt would have been dealt with before they became a public nuisance. Decades of labor ‘government’ has allowed a free for all for their type. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to these young women, forced by their employment to listen to the largely unqualified rot being spat from the mouths of the community’ experts’. Who will these ‘experts’ call when their lights dim, their computers fail & their air conditioning finally stops wasting power (ceases to function) ? Probably the poor girls who tried to tell them that they needed and were lucky enough to have been offered improved electricity infrastructure. Can’t help bad luck you thoughtless wasters.
We only really saw what the news wanted to go to air. It didn’t really look good for the Energex girl when she said “and I don’t care”. About what we don’t know but either way, not a really good thing to say to a resident. It gave the woman in the red blouse ammunition to go off and didn’t she love the camera on her too! Hope the energex girl learns something from this?
Look, to be honest, the energex people have got a budget to work with. With the recent floods and cyclones, do you really think the Government is going to allow for the powerlines to go underground and absorb the massive costs associated with it. If the residents stopped hassling the energex staff and starting hounding Anna Bligh or the energy minister, they might start being heard, but then again do you think that the Premier or Energy Minister are going to put up with people slagging off like this? Not likely!
To the people who bought houses (cheaply) due to their closeness to a major motorway and future railway corridor, I really don’t see what the issue is ! You’d die of car fumes way before electricity radiation!
