White spot disease in Evans Head prawns traced to Clarence River strain

White spot disease detected in wild caught prawns in Evans Head has been confirmed to be linked to a strain in the Clarence River.

The Department of Primary Industries conducted genetic testing after the “first-ever” detection of the virus inshore, last week.

A three month control zone covering 10 kilometres north and south of the area will remain, with ongoing testing from Ballina to Lennox Head.
